Already half-way…

Half-way through my trip as well as half-way through my two weeks in Wellington. Although I’m taking things easy, time just seems to fly by. As you can see from my tweets, I’m feeling very happy here and having a marvelous time. I guess a part of me will always consider Wellington my second home…

Me at the top of the cable car a bird's eye view over Wellington

I’ve also managed to meet up with several of my friends and will see more of them this week as well as catch up with some I haven’t yet gotten to see. It’s so great – they’re such lovely people, it feels so easy and natural to hang out with them.

Going back to CRC, the church I went to in 2008, was also great – definitely planning on going back next Sunday.

Talking plans, next Monday I’m planning on leaving Wellington and going up to National Park to do the Tongariro Crossing. The only fly in my soup is that my toe is still aching – had it checked out by a doctor today, and he said it should be okay (it’s sprained, not broken), although he also talked about expecting quite a bit of swelling and pain. I really want to go – this morning after the appointment I was determined, but I’ve been doing a LOT of walking here (haven’t taken any public transport except the cable car) and unsurprisingly it’s getting worse and not better and I’m usually in quite a bit of discomfort at the end of a normal day here, so right now I’m back to not knowing. Eight hours is just a LONG time hiking, especially since there’s steep climbing, both up- and downhill involved. Ugh, decisions, decisions… And until I decide I can’t really book anything for next week – if I don’t do Tongariro, I’d probably go to Rotorua, enjoy the hot springs there, before heading to Hobbiton.

Anyways, to wrap up on a more cheerful note (btw, I am completely aware that I’m totally talking first world problems here – I’m so bloody lucky to be here at all!): I managed to get all my Christmas shopping done and wrote a whole bunch of postcards! We’re not mentioning all the stuff I bought for myself – there are sales everywhere, it’s dangerous to go downtown (which I do every day)… 🙂
