Saturday I chilled at the house, went online and skyped with my brother and then got a pedicure with Stien, which was fun (also, cheap – only 150 gourdes, not even 5 USD). Most of the others, on the other hand, took motos up into the mountains and went paragliding with a French guy. I’ve wanted to go paragliding for years, so I’m hoping for a repeat another weekend. Saturday ended with an unexpected shower: During dinner at Rendezvous it started to pour. All Haitians were standing somewhere dry, wating for it to be over and laughing at us thoroughly wet white people, making our way home through rivers of garbage water.

Sunday I spent in a similar quiet fashion, except that in the afternoon I joined some of the others at Cap, the hotel where we can enjoy the pool and internet. Another group took motos to a beach outside of Jacmel – something else I plan to do sometime. (I keep having to remind myself that my time here has barely started and that there will be plenty of opportunities.)

In the course of Sunday it was decided that our three nurses would head up to Port au Prince early Monday morning, to join NGO ‘Grassroots’ and help with the Cholera outbreak in St. Marc, so we lost a third of our rotation, which feels strange. The other two-weekers have also started talking about their plans after Jacmel, so this second week already feels as if something is coming to an end.

Before this, however, there will be a party: Kat and Jess are hosting an Eat So They Can event on Wednesday evening, raising funds for Haiti by having party guests donate. This is a global campaign run by GVN that is now in its third year, and the goal this year is to raise USD 500’000. For obvious reasons we won’t be able to raise a whole lot of money here in Jacmel – so if you want to help, you can do so on Kat’s host page.

—
26. Oktober, 6.30 Uhr

[Deutsch unten] 26 October, 6.30am I had a quiet weekend because of stomach troubles.
