It&#8217;s a kirituhi (a Maori-style tattoo, but not a proper <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/T%C4%81_moko\" target=\"new\">moko<\/a>), a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Koru\" target=\"_blank\">koru<\/a>, symbolizing &#8220;life, growth, strength and peace&#8221;. It&#8217;s also a feminine symbol and can be seen as a mother and child.
